In Reception, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). The children will learn new skills, acquire new knowledge and demonstrate understanding through the seven areas.
Personal, social and emotional development, Physical Development and Communication and Language.
Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding of the World, Expressive arts and design.
The prime areas run alongside and support learning in all other areas, so these are our focused areas when the children start school.
We ensure activities support the CHARACTERISTICS OF EFFECTIVE LEARNING.
PLAYING AND EXPLORING – Children investigate and experience things, and ‘have a go’.
ACTIVE LEARNING – Children concentrate and keep on trying if they encounter difficulties and enjoy achievements.
CREATING AND THINKING CRITICALLY – Children have and develop their own ideas, make links between ideas, and develop strategies for doing things.
Teaching following a termly theme which fits in with the whole school theme approach. Lessons are taught through a mixture of adult led, child led and child initiated activities, using both the indoor and outdoor environment.
